The Diocese of Owensboro invites you to join Chaplain Fr. Carl McCarthy for Risen and Sent: An Easter Pilgrimage to Washington, D.C., beginning Sunday, April 12, with pick-ups in Paducah and Madisonville before gathering for the 10:30 a.m. Mass at Precious Blood Church in Owensboro. After Mass, we’ll embark together on a journey of faith and fellowship.

The pilgrimage will commence with designated pickup stops in Paducah and Madisonville. Participants will then gather for the 10:30 a.m. Mass at Precious Blood Parish in Owensboro. Following Mass, box lunches will be distributed prior to departure for Charleston, West Virginia, where the group will stay overnight.
Following breakfast, depart for the Seton Shrine in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch in the charming town of Emmitsburg before celebrating Mass at the Seton Shrine. Afterward, explore two special exhibits that highlight St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s life, legacy, and her lasting contributions to the formation of America. Later in the afternoon, travel to Washington, D.C., where you’ll enjoy dinner on your own at the lively Pentagon City Mall. Conclude the evening with check-in at your hotel and time to rest and relax after a day of inspiration and discovery.
After breakfast, visit the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America, a “Little Jerusalem” whose chapels and replicas of Holy Land sites invite prayer for peace and for Christians in Christ’s homeland. Continue to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, the national Marian shrine and largest Catholic church in North America, where you will celebrate a private Mass, enjoy a guided tour, and visit the gift shop. After lunch, explore the Saint John Paul II National Shrine, honoring the saintly pope’s life, teaching, and devotion to Divine Mercy and the dignity of every person. Return to the hotel for spiritual reflection with Fr. Carl and a brief rest before dinner, then conclude the day with an illuminated evening tour of the monuments and memorials, followed by evening prayer at the hotel.
Following an early breakfast and Mass at the hotel, depart for a guided tour of the Washington, DC memorials, including time for photos outside the White House. Enjoy a delicious group lunch, then spend the afternoon at the powerful United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Afterwards, continue to the U.S. Capitol for a guided tour, including pre-arranged gallery passes to observe Congress in session when available. Enjoy dinner on your own this evening, followed by time at the hotel for quiet reflection and relaxed social time together.
Following an early breakfast, depart for Arlington National Cemetery, where you will visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and have time for prayer and reflection at this moving memorial while witnessing the solemn Changing of the Guard ceremony (time permitting). Enjoy lunch on your own before continuing on to West Virginia, arriving in Charleston for dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel.
Following breakfast, we will depart for Western Kentucky. Enjoy a lunch on your own in Bardstown before we head down the parkway to home.
